Since I was a child, I have loved nature. I grew up in a time period where children were outside enjoy the planet. Mother nature has always been apart of my b eing. The colors of seasons, the feel of the sun on the skin, the caress of the wind. Those are inspirations. It is my job to have those inspirations become new artworks.
After graduate school, I was very stressed out and start to garden to recenter. I have not stopped. I love watch plants grow, flourish, shrivel, die, and come back. It is an amazing world to visualize the cycles. The colors of nature are so intense in hue and contrast. It is wonderful. I am always taken back by what nature brings. I use this to fuel my color choices.
Travel refuels me. I am lucky enough to be able to travel to new places. I always go see gardens, architecture, and art museums. I take lots of photos when I am away of detailed items that I think I may want to paint. I may take 2000 photos but only use 1 or 2 to paint from.
It does not matter to me if a flower is a prized cultivated species or an unplanted weed. I love them all. I love to paint the weeds a little more, but it just comes down to the beauty of the flower. Everyone has their own favorites and memories with them.
